HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 c248W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his latest estimate of the total number of non-British husbands of women immigrants already settled in the United Kingdom and the number of such husbands deriving from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the West Indies and the African Continent, respectively.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

No firm estimate can be made but the statistics of spouses admitted for settlement will be published quarterly.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, following the review of immigration rules permitting husbands and wives to be admitted into the United Kingdom irrespective of special hardship, how many people he expects will enter the United Kingdom under the revised rule in the present year.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

The change of policy which my right hon. Friend announced on 27th June was limited to men. Wives were already admitted irrespective of special hardship. At this stage I would not like to speculate about figures for 1974. Statistics of entry will be published quarterly.
