asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many smallpox cases have been reported in each of the years 1972, 1973 and 1974 to date; and whether in each case they will state the place in which the case was diagnosed, and the centre to which the patient was taken for treatment.

During the years 1972–74 (to date) five confirmed cases of smallpox were reported in England, all during 1973. Details are as follows:—

A review of the scale of hospital provision for smallpox is taking place. Meanwhile the advice given in 1967 still stands.

Whether they will publish a list of the operational units available for the accommodation of smallpox patients, giving in each case the name of the region, the place, and the number of beds for suspected and confirmed cases respectively.
