asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners are segregated from other prisoners under Rule 43 of the Prison Rules 1964 (a) by order of the governor and (b) at the prisoner's own request.

Mr. Carlisle

On 13th October there were 725 prisoners in prisons in England and Wales who had been removed from association with other prisoners under the provisions of Rule 43. Of these, 645 had been removed at their own request.
