§ Mr. David Steelasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek powers to make a special grant available to offset costs incurred by wives dependent on supplementary benefit to enable them to make the maximum permitted number of visits to their husbands in prison.
§ Mr. DeanThe Supplementary Benefits Commission, as agent of the Home Office whose financial responsibility it is, already pays the costs of prisoners' wives receiving supplementary benefit to enable them to visit their husbands every four weeks when a sentence exceeds three months. When there is a special reason, the cost of additional visits may be met.
