Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many abortions were carried out in England and Wales on single girls whose normal place of residence was given as abroad for each of the years 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972;

(2) how many abortions were notified as being carried out in England and Wales in 1972 on women whose normal place of residence was given as abroad; and what were the countries of residence of the women concerned;

(3) what was the total number of deaths attributed to abortion in 1971 and 1972; and how many were classified as legal abortions, as spontaneous abortions and as illegal abortions, respectively;

(4) what was the legal abortions mortality rate for 1972;

(5) what was the maternal mortality rate for 1972.
