HL Deb 09 July 1973 vol 344 cc624-6WA
LORD GARDINER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

If they will make a statement about the progress of the Law Commision's examination of the law of contract with a view to its codification.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD HAILSHAM OF SAINT MARYLEBONE)

The examination is proceeding, but the Law Commission have decided with my approval that a change is required in their method of work. They propose to publish a series of Working Papers on particular parts of the law of contract. This will simplify consultation and help their consideration of proposed reforms. Work on a draft code will be suspended in the meantime, but the Commission will again consider codification when they have completed the work which they are now putting in hand.

House adjourned at two minutes past eight o'clock.
