HC Deb 03 December 1973 vol 865 cc259-60W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the British financial contribution to the European Nuclear Steelmaking group ; and whether it is intended that the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority should be associated directly or indirectly with the group.

Mr. Tom Boardman

The European Nuclear Steelmaking Club has been formed by steelmakers from seven countries with the purpose of defining a strategy for the application of nuclear energy to steelmaking. I understand that the British Steel Corporation is a full member and its representative is chairman of the club. The question of a financial contribution, which would be small, is therefore a matter for the corporation. Full membership of the club is open only to steelmaking companies, but there is provision for electing associate members concerned with related industries and technologies, such as the United Atomic Energy Authority, which would participate in working parties and technical meetings.
