HL Deb 10 April 1973 vol 341 c636WA
BARONESS EMMET OF AMBERLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take measures to increase the number of their representatives in the United Nations who are women?

BARONESS TWEEDSMUIR OF BELHELVIE

We nominate the most suitable candidate for United Nations posts regardless of sex. Our delegations to the General Assembly have usually included both men and women. At present we are represented by Mrs. Guinevere Tilney on the Status of Women Commission and by Miss Jean Thompson on the Population Commission. The noble Baroness, Lady Elles, has recently been elected to the Sub-Commission on the Prevention of Discrimination and the Protection of Minorities.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past eight o'clock.
