HC Deb 02 April 1973 vol 854 c7W
Miss Quennell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment where the collection of ivory figures now is which was formerly housed in a glass-fronted cabinet by the North Curtain; what their history was; and how the House acquired them.

Mr. Channon

The Advisory Committee on Works of Art in the House of Commons recommended last year that this collection be offered for Mr. Speaker for his residence. The offer was accepted and the appropriate arrangements are now being made. The items concerned— about 20 in number—are nineteenth century copies of seventeenth century ivories. Most of them were presented to the House in the 1920s by past Members or other donors.
