HL Deb 30 March 1972 vol 329 cc1195-6WA
LORD AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will introduce legislation providing that where an inclusive tour operator cancels a tour and returns any deposits received because of shortage of bookings, the operator should pay compensation on a sliding scale according to the number of days left until the scheduled departure time.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD DRUMALBYN)

No. I understand that when a tour operator cancels a tour he will normally offer the customer an alternative holiday arrangement. It would in any case be difficult to justify a particular sliding scale of automatic compensation.
