asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will estimate the total expenditure on family planning by local health authorities in each of the years 1967 to 1971 inclusive; and what was the expenditure by the Government on family planning in each of these years.

Information is not available for 1967/68. Net expenditure by local health authorities in England was as follows: 1968/69, £337,000; 1969/70, £490,000; 1970/71, £797,000.

As to Government expenditure, the elements from Government funds on rate support grant, the pharmaceutical service and the hospital service that relate to family planning services are not separately identifiable. Central Government grants to voluntary bodies were: 1968/69,—;1969/70,—;1970/71, £20,000.

Government specific grants to local authorities in England related to Family Planning (which have not been deducted from the expenditure figures above) were: 1968/69,—;1969/70, £6,250; 1970/71, £8,640.
