HC Deb 04 December 1972 vol 847 cc331-2W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many persons at the present time are estimated, respectively, to be in receipt of an income which is exclusively unearned of less than £1,000 per year, an income which is exclusively earned of less than £1,000 per year, and an income which is partly from earned and partly from unearned sources of less than £1,000 per year.

Mr. Nott

For those with incomes between £420 and £1,000 the figures are about 40,000, 3¼ million and 1 million respectively, counting the joint earnings of a married couple as one. Data for those with incomes below £420 are not available.
