§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement of Government policy on the placing in Scotland or the distressed areas of the North of England of the offices of the European institutions in preference to their siting in London; and whether on entry into the European Economic Community Great Britain will be free to decide such matters without reference to the enlarged Community.
§ Mr. RipponIn appropriate cases we should be glad to consider the location of offices of European institutions in London or elsewhere in this country. But Her Majesty's Government have to take into account a number of factors in deciding policy on these questions. The siting of such offices is a matter for agreement between participating States.
