HC Deb 11 April 1972 vol 834 cc140-1W
41. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is now taking to encourage more married women doctors to find part-time work in the National Health Service.

Sir K. Joseph

Regional hospital boards are approaching individual women doctors who are believed not to be in employment, pointing out the opportunities for part-time work including the possibility that posts might be arranged suited to the limited time individual doctors with domestic commitments can devote to practice. I am considering in consultation with the professional bodies concerned including the Medical Women's Federation how similar arrangements can be made in general practice, and what further steps might be taken in hospital and in general practice.
