HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 cc270-2W
50. Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will call for reports from a sample of local authorities concerning the state of implementation of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970.

Mr. Alison

I would refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend's reply to my hon. Friend, the Member for Tynemouth (Dame Irene Ward) on 11th February, 1971.—[Vol. 811, c.250.]

70. Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many local authorities are now implementing the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970.

Mr. Alison

All, so far as we are aware, are implementing Section 2 of the Act to which I assume the hon. Member refers.

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he has taken to assess the numbers involved and likely to qualify for assistance under the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970; what analysis he has made of the classes of sickness and disability involved; and what advice he has given to local authorities.

Mr. Alison

Relevant information from the Survey by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys of the Chronically Sick and Handicapped will be published about the end of April. In the light of that information, we will consider what guidance needs to be given to local authorities.

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what financial provision has been made by his Department and local authorities for the full implementation of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970.

Sir K. Joseph

I have nothing to add to my reply to the hon. Member for Fife, West (Mr. William Hamilton) on 12th March.—[Vol. 813, c.192.]

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent representations have been made to him complaining about local authorities not implementing the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Alison

None.

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he proposes to name the appointed day for the implementation of the provisions, other than Section 1, of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970, for which he is responsible.

Mr. Alison

There are no such provisions.

Mr. Weitzman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what further progress he is making to implement Section 24 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970.

Mr. Alison

The collection of evidence for presentation to the Medical Research Council is still in progress.

Mr. Weitzman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, to date, he has required information as to persons, not being elderly persons, being cared for in hospitals as in-patients in any part of the hospital normally used wholly or mainly for the care of elderly persons as referred to in Section 17(2) of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, 1970; and what information he has received.

Mr. Alison

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Manchester, Openshaw (Mr. Charles R. Morris) on 23rd February.—[Vol. 812, c.68.]
