HL Deb 02 August 1971 vol 323 cc995-6WA
LORD GARDINER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are now able to make any further announcement about the Advisory Committee recommended by the Committee on Legal Education.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD HAILSHAM OF ST. MARYLEBONE)

I have had consultations with the Senate of the Four Inns of Court and The Law Society about the setting up of the Advisory Committee envisaged on the Ormrod Report. The professional bodies agree that it is desirable that a Committee should be set up as soon as possible to advise on matters affecting legal education, and they are in consultation with the appropriate academic authorities about the committee's composition and terms of reference. I am glad to say that the noble and learned Lord, Lord Cross of Chelsea, has indicated his willingness to act as Chairman of the Committee.

House adjourned at ten minutes before one o'clock, a.m.
