HC Deb 01 May 1970 vol 800 cc400-1W
Mr. Peter Archer

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of teachers in schools under his control attends in-service training courses.

Mr. Fowler:

Information on this subject is not collected regularly, but a sample survey of teacher attendance at in-service training courses during 1964–67 indicated that in these three years 63 per cent. of teachers attended at least one course, while 45 per cent. atended two or more and 31. per cent. three or more. Courses, in this context, range from lectures or conferences lasting less than a day to diploma courses lasting a year.
