HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 cc285-6W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many members of the Ulster Special Constabulary have applied to join the Ulster Police Reserve; and how many have been accepted.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The Police Bill (Northern Ireland) contains provision for the creation of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve. Applications to join cannot be received or accepted in advance of enactment by Stormont.

I understand that about 700 persons have expressed an interest in joining but there are no figures to indicate how many of these persons are or were members of the Ulster Special Constabulary.
