§ Mr. Merlyn ReesWhen the Chief Fire Officer asked for technical advice last December, the Home Office expressed a preference for replacement mainly because it was then understood that new equipment, incorporating ladder sections of improved design, was obtainable at a favourable price. I understand that this is no longer available. I am advised that the existing equipment is capable of repair to a standard which would fully comply with the relevant Home Office specification. The choice between replacement and repair rests with the fire authority.
