Notes:

(i) Figures in columns (9), (11) and (13) are not on precisely the same basis as those in columns (5) and (7) respectively.

(ii) Indictable offences of violence against the person are recorded as known to the police in England and Wales for the following offences: murder, attempted murder, threats or conspiracy or incitement to murder, manslaughter, infanticide, child destruction, causing death by dangerous driving, wounding and other acts endangering life, endangering railway passengers, endangering life at sea, malicious wounding and other like offences, assault, intimidation and molestation, abandoning children under two years, child stealing, procuring abortion and concealment of birth. The figures shown for persons found guilty of violence against the person offences cover, in addition, those found guilty, on indictment, of cruelty to or neglect of children.

(b) the use of firearms,

(c) offences against the Drugs Acts, for the years 1950, 1960 and 1967; with the numbers of convictions obtained under each heading and, in each case, the number of offences by

(i) persons under 21,

(ii) persons of 21 and over.
