asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many hill farms or parts of hill farms have been purchased for forestry planting between 1958 and 1967 by:

  1. (i) The Forestry Commission.
  2. (ii) Private owners during the period 1965 to 1967

in

  1. (a) the County of Selkirkshire and
  2. (b) the County of Roxburghshire.

Between 1958 and 1967 the Forestry Commission acquired by purchase or feu one hill farm and parts of six hill farms in the County of Selkirkshire and two hill farms and parts of five hill farms in the County of Roxburghshire. In addition, it acquired by feu one hill farm which lay partly in Selkirkshire and partly in Roxburghshire.

No reliable information is available about the number of farms or parts of farms purchased for forestry planting by private owners during the period 1965 to 1967.
