39. Mr. Lubbock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the assignments given by Government Departments and nationalised industries to American management consultants since October, 1964; and if he will instruct Ministers concerned to ensure that in future British management consultants are invited to submit proposals for such assignments.

Mr. Harold Lever

I will list the six assignments given by Government Departments to American management consultants since April, 1965 out of a total of 80 consultants' assignments; it is normal practice for Departments to seek proposals from British consultants.

Full information about management consultants employed by nationalised industries is not readily available and this is in any case a matter within their managerial discretion.
