HC Deb 26 March 1968 vol 761 cc249-50W
Mr. Lubbock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the minimum number of hours, lectures and classes per week which he requires of an alien before he will accept that such an alien is a bona fide student; whether there are any additional qualifications regarding the times of day of these lectures and classes; and how students can become informed of these conditions.

Mr. Ennals

In order to qualify for admission to the United Kingdom as a student, or for an extension of stay in that capacity, a foreign national is required to enrol for full-time studies at abona fide educational establishment, and to produce satisfactory evidence that he can maintain himself without taking em ployment. As a general rule, a minimum of 15 hours' attendance a week at daytime classes is required. This information is available to all who inquire of the Home Office.
