HL Deb 20 July 1967 vol 285 c502WA
THE EARL OF HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have studied the report of Mr. Terrence T. Doherty, Chief of the Traffic Division of the Police Department of Chicago, on Road Accidents and Road Safety, and also Mr. Michael Austin's book Accident Black Spot; and whether the new body which they propose to set up dealing with Road Safety will fully investigate the matters contained in these two books.

LORD SHEPHERD

Those working on road safety in the Ministry of Transport and the Road Research Laboratory make a particular point of examining contributions to the subject made by others working in this country and abroad. They have studiedAccident Black Spot, and are studying Mr. Doherty's new book.

Information and proposals from publications of this kind will be among the many factors taken into consideration in the development of a continuing programme of action in road safety. This programme will be put into effect by the Central Road Safety Unit, working with the Area Road Safety Units and local authorities in the new organisation outlined in the recent White Paper, Road Safety—A Fresh Approach.

House adjourned at five minutes before ten o'clock.
