HC Deb 21 February 1967 vol 741 cc248-9W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, in view of Her Majesty's Government's policy that the size of primary and secondary school classes should be reduced to 30 and that teachers should be adequately paid, what action he has now taken, and will take, to achieve these objectives.

Mr. Crosland

My 14-point programme is aimed at increasing the supply of teachers and so reducing class sizes. The remuneration of the teachers is in the first instance a matter for the Burnham Committee.
