§ Mr. Biffenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the nature and extent of research work being carried out by the Pirbright Institute in the areas infected by the current foot-and-mouth epidemic.

Two members of the staff of the Animal Virus Research Institute, Pirbright, are working in infected areas investigating the epidemiology of the disease, including the manner of its Tread. In addition the Institute is receiving, for laboratory examination, material taken from animals in the infected areas.
