HL Deb 03 May 1966 vol 274 c406WA
VISCOUNT FURNESS

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they have not yet acceded to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide concluded in Paris in December, 1948.

LORD WALSTON

As was stated by my honourable friend in another place on November 15, 1965, Her Majesty's Government have decided that the United Kingdom should accede to this Convention. As soon as the legislative programme permits we shall introduce legislation to enable us to fulfil the obligations which adherence to the Convention will impose. Accession will take place as soon as possible after the legislation has been enacted.

House adjourned at seven minutes past seven o'clock.
