HC Deb 03 August 1966 vol 733 c113W
Rear-Admiral Morgan Giles

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the current policy concerning voluntary retirement for general duties officers of the Royal Air Force.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The voluntary retirement of general duties officers, i.e. retirement at other than their optional or normal retirement dates, has always been subject to the over-riding interests of the Service. Since 1965, such retirements have been limited to officers over the age of 50, but the situation will be reviewed early in 1967. No officer is being kept beyond his terms of service.
