§ Mr. Lubbockasked the Minister of Power if he will state the planned output, the capital cost per kilowatt, and the expected commissioning date of the nuclear power station at Wylfa; and if he will give the estimated cost per unit for this station and the depreciation period, rate of interest, load factor, megawatt days per tonne of fuel, and the price of uranium ore on which this estimate is based.
§ Mr. WoodThe main contract for Wylfa has not yet been settled and the Board can give only provisional estimates about the station at present. The planned output is over 1,000 MW, the estimated total capital cost is £97 per kilowatt, and the prospective commissioning date is late in 1968. The estimated cost per unit on the assumptions at present adopted by the C.E.G.B. is 0.66d.; this assumes depreciation over 20 years, interest at 6 per cent. with an additional 1.5 per cent. to reflect the industry's obligation to earn a gross return of 12½ per cent. a year on its average net assets, a load factor of 75 per cent., irradiation of 3,000 megawatt days per tonne of fuel and a price of $5 a lb. for uranium ore.
