§ 90. Mr. D. Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps are being taken by Her Majesty's Government or the territorial Governments of the territories concerned to meet the shortage of doctors in British Guiana, Jamaica, Trinidad, Dominica, and other West Indian territories.
§ Mr. ProfumoExcept for specialist posts, there are only a small number of vacancies for doctors in the medical departments of the British Caribbean 185W territories which I have been asked to fill. These vacancies are advertised in the professional journals and every effort is made to fill them. Local Governments are themselves trying to fill some other vacancies. The expansion of medical departments in the Caribbean is closely related to the development of the territories' resources on which their maintenance depends. The expansion of the teaching facilities for medical students at the University College of the West Indies to meet estimated long-term needs in the area is under consideration.
