Mr. F. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many members of the security forces have been punished or discharged for ill treating Cypriot civilians since April, 1955; and if he will list the penalty awarded in each case.

Five. The penalties imposed were as follows:—

  1. (1) £10 fine or one year's imprisonment. Required to resign from Police Force.
  2. (2) 3 years' imprisonment.
  3. (3) £25 fine. Required to resign from Police Force.
  4. (4) and (5) Cashiered: reduced on appeal to dismissal.

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many members of the security forces have been punished or discharged for indiscipline for showing sympathy with Cypriot civilians who complained of ill treatment.
