HC Deb 20 February 1957 vol 565 c69W
76. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that 15 per cent. of the population of Malaya is suffering from tuberculosis and that the disease is spreading to a dangerous extent; and what steps he is taking to reduce the incidence of this disease in the Federation.

Mr. Profumo

No. The incidence of tuberculosis in the Federation of Malaya is not at present known; but although it is suspected to be high, there is no reason to believe that it is spreading dangerously. The Federation Government is now considering proposals designed to reduce the incidence of the disease.
