asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether oriental languages are taught in primary as well as secondary schools in Mauritius; and for how many oriental language teachers provision was made in the 1956–57 and the 1957–58 estimates, respectively.

Yes. Hindu, Urdu and Tamil are taught in 117 of the 173 Government and aided primary schools. Provision was made for 70 teachers of oriental languages in the 1956–57 estimates and for 95 in 1957–58.
