§ Mr. R. Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the continued unrest in Kono, Kenema and Bo, in Sierra Leone, where action was taken against illicit diamond miners, 78W what proposals have been made to re-establish stability in the area.
§ Mr. ProfumoLarge numbers of people who had no residence in the affected areas or permits to be there under the Tribal Authority Regulations have been removed. Police will remain in the affected areas and proposals are under consideration for increasing the numbers of Administrative Officers there. The Sierra Leone Government is urgently considering improvements in the alluvial diamond mining scheme.
