asked Her Majesty's Government the average number of deaths a month from road accidents for Great Britain, the United States of America and France respectively in the year 1954; and the number of vehicles on the roads in those three countries.

† Persons who died within 30 days of the accident.

|| This includes all forms of motor vehicles carrying an excise licence. In France motor-assisted pedal cycles and light motor cycles do not carry motor licences and are therefore not included.

It is estimated that in 1954 there were 14 to 2 million of these vehicles on the roads in France.
