HL Deb 30 July 1953 vol 183 c1238WA
LORD SCHUSTER

asked Her Majesty's Government whether they are now able to announce a decision on the payment of compensation to part-time clerks to justices who lose office under the Justices of the Peace Act, 1949.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

The Government have now decided, in principle, that part-time clerks to justices who lose office in consequence of reorganisation schemes under the Justices of the Peace Act, 1949, may receive a measure of compensation. The part-time clerks of the peace who lost office when their boroughs lost their commissions of the peace will be similarly treated. The details of the scheme are now being worked out. Regulations will be made under section 42 of the Act as soon as possible.

House adjourned at twelve minutes past seven o'clock.
