§ Mr. Nieldasked the Secretary of State for War if under the new scheme for the T.A., members of it will be required to do at least eight days in camp each year; and if he will consult with the Minister of Labour with a view to requiring employers of such members to permit their employees to have those eight days away from work in addition to their normal holidays.
§ Mr. BellengerThe answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." With regard to the second part of the Question, neither I nor my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour have any power to require employers to allow their employees to have in addition to their normal holidays the period of paid holiday for the purpose of attending Territorial Army camps, but I feel sure that in dealing with this matter employers will bear in mind—as they have in the past—the importance of the Territorial Army to the national interest.
