HC Deb 21 January 1947 vol 432 c13W
35. Mrs. Manning

asked the Secretary of State for War what educational facilities now exist for our Forces serving with the Army in Burma.

Mr. Bellenger

The Army Education Scheme is being carried out for British troops in Burma as fully as the military commitments of units permit. In addition to such education as is possible in units, there are pre-vocational training courses, and there are education centres at Rangoon and Maymo, which provide a variety of educational facilities. War Office correspondence courses in a wide range of professional and general subjects are available for those who cannot obtain direct instruction. Arrangements have been made for selected men to be returned home in time to attend the one-month residential courses at Army Colleges in the United Kingdom before their release from the Army. I have called for a special report from Burma and will let my hon. Friend have any further details that I receive.
