HC Deb 06 February 1947 vol 432 cc379-80W
19 and 21. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Health (1) whether he will take the action necessary to protect tenants living in furnished or unfurnished room from unlawful eviction; whether he is aware that at present the police have no power to intervene as it is a civil offence; and if he will introduce amending legislation to enable the police to act in such matters;

(2) if he will take steps to protect tenants occupying furnished rooms from persecution once they have appealed to a Rents Tribunal, and to make any attempts to prevent sub-tenants having access to their rooms an indictable offence.

Mr. Bevan

I have delegated power to clerks of local authorities to requisition occupied premises in such cases of eviction or threatened eviction.
