HC Deb 30 October 1946 vol 428 cc109-10W
104. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has considered the petition requesting him to make representations to secure the release of Archbishop Stepinac, signed by about 500 people in Newport; and what reply has been sent.

108. Mr. Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the large number of representations being received from both sides in the matter, he will make a statement on the full Report from His Majesty's ambassador in Belgrade concerning the trial of Archbishop Stepinac.

Mr. McNeil

My right hon. Friend considered the petition mentioned by my hon. Friend the Member for Newport (Mr. Peter Freeman) before he left for New York. I have also received a large number of other petitions from hon. Members and from elsewhere. I am at present considering various reports which I have received on this question, and I hope to be in a position to make a further statement.
