Smithersasked the Secretary of State for War if he will have inquiries made into the conditions under which British troops are now living in Singapore, particularly those under canvas; and, in view of the fact that the arrival of wives and children of service personnel is adding to the overcrowding, if he will take immediate steps to rectify the bad conditions prevailing.
§ Mr. BellengerI am already aware of the need for improving the accommodation of the troops in this command. I explained the situation and the action now being taken to effect improvements, in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Stafford (Mr. Swingler) on 15th October.
