HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c223W
113. Mr. G. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will issue instructions to the effect that, where a soldier is shortly to become a father of a child born out of wedlock, compassionate leave shall be granted in order that the man may return home to marry the expectant mother should that desire be expressed by both the parties involved.

Mr. Bellenger

No, Sir: This could only be done at the expense of other soldiers who have been away from home for long periods.
