HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 cc164-5W
26. Mr. Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there are a large number of ammunition dumps on good agricultural food producing land alongside main roads in Breconshire and Radnorshire and adjoining counties; and whether he will arrange for such unused and unguarded dumps to be disposed of immediately.

Mr. Bellenger:

Very little good agricultural land is used for the storage of ammunition, and any land used for this purpose consists entirely of strips about 3o ft. wide along the borders of roads. The use of these strips was agreed with local representatives of war agricultural executive committees when the land was requisitioned. As my right hon. Friend has informed the House on previous occasions, every effort is being made to dispose of surplus ammunition as quickly as possible and priority is given to agricultural land.
