HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 cc368-9W
Mr. McAllister

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many trading estates are now under construction and contemplated for Lanarkshire; how many workers it is hoped to employ in each; and how many houses are being built in adjoining estates; and what community facilities it is hoped to provide for each new community thus created.

Mr. Buchanan

Two new industrial estates are to be provided in Lanarkshire and the three existing estates in the county are being further developed. In all, employment will be provided for about17,500 persons. The estates have been especially sited to serve the needs of existing towns and new housing with the necessary community facilities will be provided in those towns by the local authorities concerned. At present 740 permanent houses and 648 temporary houses are under construction by those authorities. I am sending fuller details to my hon. Friend.
