HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c248W
Captain Plugge

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether sympathetic consideration will be given after the war to the return to liberated France of the French merchant shipping we are now using for the allied war effort?

Mr. Noel-Baker

At the time of the general requisitioning in July, 1940, of the French ships required for continued service in the war effort, H.M. Government in the United Kingdom publicly promised that these ships would be returned to France after the war and this promise, of course, holds good.
