HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 cc46-7W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Minister of Health (1) what exact sum under the new pensions scheme will be provided by the extra 2d. and 3d. contributions; and whether the State will be called on for any equivalent payment;

(2) whether voluntary contributors under all Pensions Acts will be compelled to contribute the extra 2d. and 3d. contributions under the new pensions scheme?

Mr. Elliot

I must ask the hon. Member to await the Bill and the Government Actuary's report, which I hope will be available this week.

Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Minister of Health whether the new pensions legislation will include provision for widows who lose their pensions when their youngest child leaves school?

Mr. Elliot

The new proposals do not affect the position of widows under the age of 60.
