HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 cc52-3W
Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware there is plenty of scrap-iron at collieries which would be useful for munitions; and will he have inquiries made to see whether this can be collected?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

My hon. Friend the Secretary for Mines is in constant touch with the collieries in regard to the disposal of their metal scrap, with a view to recovering all possible scrap for return to the steel works with the least possible delay. If my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind where this is being neglected and will furnish me with the necessary particulars, I shall be glad to have immediate inquiries made.
