HC Deb 17 October 1939 vol 352 c702W
Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will issue instructions that no occupied property, either business or residential, shall be occupied by anyone under his control wherever there is suitable unoccupied property available; and whether he will direct that local authorities should always be consulted, with a view to assisting in this regard?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Instructions were issued that premises requisitioned should, as far as possible, be unoccupied premises or those which could be taken over without undue inconvenience to the occupiers.

Additional officers are now being appointed to deal with these questions locally, in close touch with local representatives of other Government Departments and local authorities.
