§ Mr. ElliotComplete information on the point raised could only be obtained by means of a special return from all voluntary and municipal maternity institutions in London and the home counties, which I do not feel justified in requiring under present conditions. As regards the emergency maternity homes established in connection with the evacuation scheme, the matrons in the large majority of cases are qualified midwives; and, where for special reasons this is not the case, there is an adequate number of qualified midwives on the staff.
