HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 cc425-6W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Minister of Health whether he will institute inquiries for the purpose of ascertaining how many aldermen and councillors of Metropolitan boroughs are in receipt of wages or salaries upon the ground of being employed in Civil Defence under the provisions of Section 10 of the Local Government Staffs (War Service) Act?

Mr. Elliot

By the provision to which my hon. Friend refers Parliament has recently reviewed disqualifications which would otherwise have arisen in the case of members of a council being employed in Civil Defence service for reward, and, in the circumstances, I do not feel justified in asking local authorities to make special returns to me on this matter.
